Recently the team at Intuit sent out an email to QuickBooks Desktop users letting them know that they were discontinuing their Intuit Sync Manager. The good news is that Accelo engineers are working on a replacement which will allow Accelo users to continue to sync with their QuickBooks Desktop software, and we'll have it ready in time for the March 2016 deadline to switch over.
QuickBooks Desktop, as opposed to QuickBooks Online, is installed directly on laptop or desktop computers (as the name suggests). These desktop computers are generally less secure than server systems, and as a result they are best run behind firewalls in a business which makes it difficult for cloud-based systems to connect to them directly. Additionally, unlike servers which (should) stay online all the time, desktop computers could very well be powered down for the night or while they're in the owner's backpack or briefcase.
Because desktop technology is much more old fashioned and isolated than cloud technology, Intuit provided a novel solution - a Sync Manager. This allows the Desktop software to connect to a central "locker" provided by Intuit, and cloud platforms like Accelo can then to use an API and synchronize Clients, Invoices and Payments with people using QuickBooks Desktop even if their desktop is behind a firewall or offline.
Unfortunately, Intuit has decided to discontinue the Sync Manager, but the good news is that our awesome development team has been on top of it for the last few months! Not only have we been working endless hours on the redesign, but have also invested quite some time into dealing with the Intuit Sync Manager going away so you won't be left high and dry.
We’ll have more to share closer to release time before March 1st so stay tuned! If you're interested in beta-testing this new feature or you've got any other questions, please send an email over to [email protected].
