Accelo Serves: Denver Metro Caring

On top of being a client-serving system, Accelo makes it an initiative to take time out of our day to serve our communities too. From the States to Australia, we make it a priority to lend a helping hand where we can. This past week, the Denver team fulfilled one of our core values—Serve—and took a trip to Metro Caring. 

This wasn’t the group’s first time here. Accelo was so inspired by Metro Caring’s mission to help meet people's immediate food needs while addressing poverty, that they came back for a second time. Metro Caring provides nutritious groceries to over 2 million individuals and families. In addition to addressing the city's immediate food needs, Metro Caring offers comprehensive anti-hunger resources so that families can break the cycle of poverty.

The Fresh Foods market is at the heart of Metro Caring. Here, shoppers choose from an array of nutritious foods based on their dietary needs and leave with a week's supply of groceries, including fresh fruits and veggies, grains, dairy, and lean protein. This is where our Accelo team came in. Starting bright and early, the team had orientation and a tour, then hopped right into the warehouse. That's where they sorted through the donated fresh food and helped determine what was shelf-worthy and what could be composted. The work didn't end there. Afterwards, time was spent stocking the market and storage accordingly.
