Planning Your Labor Day

Balancing Work & Play

When there’s a national holiday we like to ask our employees how they're spending their day off. We have a diverse, creative team and it's always great to see what everyone is up to!

This weekend we have a lot to share because our CEO, Geoff McQueen, and a few other members of the Accelo team will be at INBOUND in Boston. We're hosting Agency Automation: 2018 on Labor Day with 3MediaWeb. Lysa Miller, Co-Founder of 3 Media Web, will be speaking and talking about agency best practices and automation. We also have Accelo notebooks and other treats for attendees. You can reserve a spot hereWe are represented down south too at Digital PM Summit 2018 next week, which is hosted at Elvis Presley's Guesthouse in Graceland and we can't wait to see what the event has in store.

We practice what we preach. Going into the weekend we’re very aware there's a lot that can happen when you lose a full workday. No one wants to come back to chaos. We have tips on how to ease back into the work week utilizing our client work management platform. If you haven’t yet, create an account by signing up for a free trial and see how easy it is to stay on task with Accelo.

Here’s what we’re up to:

  1. While normally based out of San Francisco, I’ll be in Chicago for my fantasy football draft and flying on Labor Day to Boston for our first User Group/INBOUND! Hitting all the different time zones.

  2. My weekend will start with a rock climbing adventure in the famous Rocky Mountain National Park where we will climb several 800-foot slabs of rock. Monday will be spent with my father for his birthday in Loveland Colorado.

  3. I’m starting the weekend off strong with the CU vs. CSU game tonight at Mile High Stadium. Early Saturday morning we’ll be making the trek to Telluride for a weekend of hiking and camping! Tuesday I’ll be flying back home to Boston for INBOUND (and my birthday).

  4. My friend and I are on a quest to hit all 50 states and this weekend we will be crossing OH and MI off the list! First stop is Detroit where we will be enjoying all that the city has to offer. Sunday, we will celebrate my latest trip around the sun by hitting Cedar Point: the roller coaster capital of the world! Then on Monday, we will keep it a bit low-key by relaxing on Lake Erie.

  5. Flying to Southern California to visit loved ones. <3

  6. On the weekends, I work as a Janitor at an Ivy League Institution. In my spare time, I occasionally solve the high-level math problems that are left on the chalkboards, so I’ll probably do that tomorrow. Other than that, me and my friend Ben Affleck might hit up a Harvard Bar later…. Who knows really!?

Get back at it. Go to bed early.

      • Having a Monday off is a certain kind of special, but pace yourself. Take this time to relax and reflect on your time off or think about what may come along in the months ahead. When you wake up on Tuesday with a clear mind and a positive attitude, rather than feeling frantic because you didn’t get enough sleep and have a lot of work to do.

Don’t try to be Superman.

      • Monotask. Being present and focused is important, and most of us are unable to multitask. Work can be overwhelming, but the best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time. Focus on the next thing, then the next thing. You’ll be surprised how much you get done.

To-do lists are your friend.

      • Do you have a task list? Write down all of your goals for the week and their dependencies. You’ll be able to see how you can be successful by taking it one thing at a time.

You’re doing great, keep going.

      • Take small breaks in between working on big projects. Especially after a few days off, it makes a difference when you spend 5 minutes away from your computer. You will come back with a clearer head and more energy.

Let us know how you are spending your Labor Day or how you jumpstart a 4-day week; also you can start a free trial of our client work management platform that keeps you connected to your team and clients - in real-time - no matter where you are and what you're up to.
